See all optionsThis guitar gives you the characteristic identifiable sound of gypsy jazz: crispy treble, punchy mids, uncluttered bass and strong projection. Great playability is assured with comfortable neck, body joint at the 14th fret and the elegant cutaway of Maccaferri's design. And the setup is easily adjusted according to your own preferences with a two-way trussrod and three bridges of different height.
Model Jazz is built according to the original production line Selmer guitar with the emblematic oval soundhole, long scale and 14 frets to the body. There are some improvements to the original design, such as upgraded neck joint, tuned soundbox, sealed AJL-tuners and adjustable trussrod, but otherwise it is essentially a Selmer replica, from every detail of the original body binding technique to the original dry sound with lots of important high mids to cut through in a band setting. Django Reinhard's own personal guitar – Selmer no. 503 – was braced a little differently than other Selmer guitars, and that had a distinct impact to its sound. AJL Model 503 reflects those traits: in comparison with Model Jazz, Model 503 has a slightly stronger bass and a bit rounder high end.
